RAY VIETTI  |  MUSICIAN  |  CINCINNATI, OH

What was your first job?

My first job was a telemarketer. I know right… WTF!?

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?

Not sure. I would like to say something creative but it’s hard to say. My first love was acting so maybe that..

What did you eat today?

So far… yogurt with blueberries. A bit of an apple and a piece of toast.

What is your favorite place to grab a bite?

Home.

What is a skill or talent that you’ve always wanted to learn?

To play the piano.

What inspires you to create?

Art. Music. I’m always inspired by my friends’ songs. It fuels my desire to write something new and gets the creative juices flowing.

What are you reading at the moment?

Nothing currently. I’m truthfully not much of a reader. But I do want to read David Lynch’s book, Catching The Big Fish. A buddy told me about it recently when we were chatting about life. Seems like it would be a good read.

Any movies or shows you’d recommend?

Go back and watch Northern Exposure! My partner and I revisited it awhile back and we couldn’t get enough. It was way before its time. Great TV. Well-written characters. Amazing vintage (90s in Alaska)!

What are you currently working on or have recently completed?

Currently I’ve been in a bit of a dry spell with writing and playing but I’m hopeful the juices get moving again soon.

What is something you’re passionate about?

I passionately despise how everything revolves around money. It’s the worst. I would love a world where waking up and being “you” is enough. That world existed at some point in human history. Until someone decided it wasn’t enough to just “be” now you have to work for someone else to afford basic human rights.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An actor.

What are your music go tos?

Right now… Susto, Futurebirds, Hiss Golden Messenger and I’m super stoked for the new Carriers record.

Know any good podcasts?

Not really.. I get locked in some when I’m on long drives but haven’t had a long drive in awhile.

How do you define success in your creative pursuits?

Really hard to say… I can say without my pursuit of music I probably wouldn’t be living in this area. Probably wouldn’t have the family I have, the friends I have… It has pretty much brought me to everything I love in my life so… I feel pretty successful in that way.

Describe your best day ever?

Wake up and just get to ‘be”. Do whatever I want, whenever I want. Even if that is absolutely nothing. Eat great food. Hang with friends and family. No one has any expectations for anyone else. Just simply enjoying each other for who we are. Bliss.
